About Me

Bonjour! My name is David Pearson. I am originally from Canada, from a small city called Saguenay, which is a five hour drive north from Montreal. It's a gorgeous city, but if you ever decide to come visit, bring a warm coat in the winter. I currently live in New York City with my wife, Leslie, and my son, Luke. We have two dogs, Thumper and Stitch.

Since I was 10 years old, I have dreamed about being a software engineer. I didn't know exactly what it would entail, but I knew I wanted to work with computers. In 1999, I purchased my first—a Pentium II—at the age of 12 with my own money. Since then, I have been passionate about solving problems with a keyboard and a mouse. I spun up my first website with Microsoft Frontpage, experimented heavily with Microsoft, Mac, and Linux, then went on to host IRC (Internet Relay Chat) servers, built hundreds of WordPress websites and a dozen mobile Android and iOS apps, played a lot with IoT (Internet of Things), and then specialized in e-commerce and online transactions.

Moving forward to today, I'm far from being a perfect leader. I have failed numerous times and continue to. But there are frameworks and principles I have learned. Some the hard way and some through the help of amazing mentors and colleagues. I've always wanted to document and share with whomever that would find it helpful.

When my son Luke was born in June of 2024, I used some of the downtime I had to write the principles, systems, and values I have embodied for over 15 years working at different companies in different cultures and team sizes. I don't pretend to know what would work best for every team and company, but utilizing these principles has helped me build successful teams working on incredible products and platforms. Some of the content might not apply to every situation and team. After thoroughly understanding the context and organization, I have utilized and implemented them throughout my career and have seen great results.
